N-8640DS เป็นสถานีประตู IP ที่ใช้เทคโนโลยีเสียงแบบแพ็กเก็ต การเชื่อมต่อ N-8640DS กับเครือข่าย IP (LAN หรือ WAN) ช่วยให้สามารถสนทนาแบบแฮนด์ฟรีด้วยคุณภาพเสียงสูงระหว่าง N-8640DS กับสถานีอินเตอร์คอมที่เชื่อมต่อกับ IP Intercom Exchange หรือระหว่าง N-8640DS กับสถานีหลักมัลติฟังก์ชัน IP นอกจากนี้ N-8640DS ยังสามารถใช้งานร่วมกับหน่วย Multi Interface ผ่านเครือข่ายได้อีกด้วย N-8640DS มีช่องสัญญาณอินพุตควบคุม 1 ช่อง ช่องสัญญาณเอาต์พุตควบคุม 5 ช่อง (รวมถึงช่องสัญญาณเอาต์พุตควบคุมรีเลย์ 1 ช่อง) และช่องสัญญาณเอาต์พุตลำโพง ทำให้สามารถเชื่อมต่ออุปกรณ์ภายนอก เช่น เซ็นเซอร์ ตัวบ่งชี้ และลำโพงภายนอกได้
